Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Bukayo Saka is keen on staying at Arsenal despite the possibility of the Gunners missing out on Champions League football next season.
The 21-year-old is an integral part of the club, having made over 125 appearances for the north Londoners in all competitions. His impressive displays have also earned him several call-ups to the national team.
The Englishman has had another excellent campaign with the Gunners this year. With 12 goals and six assists to his name, he is a constant threat in the opposition half.
Consecutive defeats in the Premier League last week have seriously dented Arsenal’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League. This could be a stumbling block in their plans for the summer transfer window, with one of them being a contract extension for Saka.
Reports have previously claimed that the youngster has been attracting interest from other clubs in England. Liverpool and Manchester City are also monitoring his progress.
In a recent interview with CaughtOffside, Fabrizio Romano has shed more light on the situation. He insists the winger is keen to stay in the English capital, and discussions over a contract extension are expected to take place at the end of this season. The journalist said:
“Arsenal have a meeting scheduled with Bukayo Saka’s agent at the end of the current season.”
“At the moment there are no changes related to the situation for the UCL spot race: Saka is in love with Arsenal, but obviously the negotiations are still at early stages. As of today, Saka is not yet negotiating with other clubs.”
Arsenal Fever View:
Saka’s current contract does not expire until 2023 with an option to extend it for another year. So there isn’t an immediate danger for the Gunners.
Tying the winger down to a long-term deal should be Arsenal’s top-most priority in the summer. The club has to reward him with a new offer befitting his value to the squad.
It is quite certain that the youngster will stay at the club. He is a product of the Hale End academy and a local boy, who knows what it means to represent the badge. It is only a matter of time before he pens down a new contract.
