According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Arsenal are finding it difficult to sign Dusan Vlahovic and are now considering Alexander Isak as an alternative.
The 22-year-old has made a name for himself since moving to Real Sociedad and turned himself into a modern forward capable of fulfilling a number of roles. The Swede also shone at the Euros last year with a dazzling array of skills.
The report in The Athletic claims that the Gunners who have been pursuing Vlahovic for some time, are finding a deal difficult to pull off. This could be because of the fact that the Serb’s agents want a substantial fee to complete the deal.
So, Ornstein states that the north Londoners are considering Isak as one of the options for their attack. The youngster has blossomed during his spell in Spain and is said to have a release clause of £75m. Ideally, the English giants are planning to buy the forward at a cheaper price than his release clause.
Arsenal Fever View:
It is becoming clear with each passing game that the Gunners need a striker. Alexandre Lacazette lacks the clinical touch that is needed for a team to finish in the top four. With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Eddie Nketiah’s future up in the air, there is a new forward needed at the Emirates.
In Isak, the north Londoners could be getting a player that has everything they want. He is able use his physicality to hold off defenders, create space and is a decent finisher to boot. Though not quite the finished article, the Swede has tremendous potential.
But once again, the stumbling block is going to be the fee as it is a huge investment on a player who still hasn’t become world class. If the Gunners can negotiate to make it lower, then it would be a deal worth exploring.
Arsenal do not have much time left in the transfer window and they have to move quickly. If they feel that getting Vlahovic is going to be complicated, then they should move onto other targets. In Isak they have chosen a striker who fits the profile and someone who could go on to become a truly great player.
