Since we are not very far from the January transfer window, the rumor mill has been going into overdrive. And the injury crisis that the Gunners are facing has only added fuel to the fire.
One such player that the club has been linked to is Fernando Calero, a center-back who plays for Real Valladolid in Spain. According to Metro, He confirmed that he was in London and this has intensified the speculation of a move.
Calero posted a picture on Instagram from the Waterloo station in London suggesting that he had come there for business rather than pleasure. The 23-year-old could be available for as little as £10m which in today’s market is not a big fee at all.
Arsenal are a little light when it comes to the center of defense especially after the season-ending injury suffered by Rob Holding. Given that manager Unai Emery sometimes likes to play three at the back, the team has undergone a bit of a reshuffle.
We have seen the likes of Stephan Lichtsteiner and Granit Xhaka being employed in the center of defense and that has not really helped the team out the way Emery would have liked.
One piece of good news is the return of club captain Laurent Koscielny who is finally back after a long spell on the sidelines. But it is not fair to expect him to reach his peak given that he is short on match fitness.
With games coming thick and fast, you need a fit squad to tackle the challenges that the Gunners will be facing. At a time like this, the injury suffered by Holding is particularly bad as he was really coming into his own and stamping his authority on the team.
So, there are suggestions that Emery would like to dip into the transfer market to sort out this issue. Calero has been very impressive for Real Valladolid this season as he has been an important part of their push towards European competition. If the Gunners are to get him, they will have to act fast as there is competition from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla.
