Arsenal are looking at signing Real Madrid midfielder Lucas Vasquez and it seems that the London club want to complete a deal as soon as possible.
Based on reports from AS, Arsenal manager Unai Emery has requested the club to do all they can to sign Vasquez, who is available for £31m. It further states that the talks are progressing well between the two sides and a deal could be agreed next week.
As per earlier reports, the Gunners were in discussions with Real Madrid regarding a move that would be worth €35m. Vazquez who is 28, is thought to be one of the players that Real manager Zinedine Zidane is looking to move from the club.
What might favor the Gunners in a deal for the midfielder would be the promise of first-team football. The Spaniard is keen to make the national team for the Euro 2020 campaign and for that to happen, he will need to play regularly.
After the signing of Eden Hazard by Real, the chances of him playing have gone down a lot and that is sure to be a factor in any decision that he makes. Based on the interest that Emery has in the player, it makes a sense for a deal to happen.
Vasquez is certainly a player that could help the Emirates club as they do not have many options that are used to playing on the wings. This is one area where the Spaniard will be very useful as he has already played there for Real.
He is not the only option that Arsenal are looking at for the wings but since Real are looking to sell him, there is a chance that this deal will be completed. Arsenal will be starting their pre-season tour of America on the 16th of July and will be hoping to have a settled team by the time it begins.
The main objective for the Gunners will be to get back into the Champions League and they will need to reinforce their squad. Getting a player such as Vasquez will go a long way in helping the club reach that position.
At 28, he is slightly on the older side but given the quality that he has shown at Real, a deal could well happen before the end of the transfer window.
