Arsenal can put their domestic woes behind them for a while as they make the trip to play PSV in the Champions League Round of 16, so let’s take a look at the team news.
The Gunners thanks to their wobbly form in the Premier League have all but gifted the title to Liverpool who are running away from the chasing pack. Europe presents the only real opportunity to win a trophy this season and Mikel Arteta would want to get some silverware.
There are a number of key players who will be missing for the north Londoners. Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli should be back in the fold soon, but they are currently injured. Kai Havertz and Takehiro Tomiyasu along with Gabriel Jesus are out for the season.
The return of Ben White and Myles Lewis-Skelly does give the club some form of relief as it can help them rotate the defence a little. There is likely to be some rotation from the manager as the games are coming thick and fast.
Arsenal Fever View:
For the visitors, they cannot be complacent with regards to PSV. The Dutch giants are dangerous especially at home where their young attackers can cause a lot of havoc. Though they are currently 2nd in the Eredivisie, they have been quite impressive in Europe.
So, the English team will have no excuses if they are found out by their opponents. While the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich will appear later on in the tournament, it is important to take each round as it comes.
It has been an extremely tough season for Arteta and the Gunners but there is still a ray of hope in the form of the Champions League. Getting to the final and beyond is still a long way away and it will take a lot from this squad to get there.
Arsenal have shown that they can bounce back from adversity, and it is one quality that the manager and fans will be banking on. If they can get a win on Tuesday, it will make the return leg at the Emirates that much easier to handle.
