It is the return of the Emirates Cup on Wednesday as Arsenal are back home and ready to welcome French giants AS Monaco, so let’s take a look at the latest team news.
This will be the hosts’ final preseason match before the Community Shield on Sunday and the Gunners come into this game on the back of a 5-3 win over Barcelona that would have given them a lot of confidence. Though the team still needs a little more time before they can hit top gear, the pieces are coming together and that is evident to see.
One player that will in all likelihood not play any part in the Emirates Cup is Alex Zinchenko. The Ukrainian international has a charity game that is played on Saturday and could very well be excused for this match at the Emirates.
Apart from this, Mikel Arteta has a full squad to choose from with Declan Rice likely to make a return to the squad. There are so many potential line-ups that the north Londoners can come up and it is a sign of the depth they have.
Arsenal Fever View:
This game is important for another reason as well as it will be the official unveiling of the Arsene Wenger statue outside the stadium. The legendary manager will be in attendance as well and he has a connection to the French opponents as well, a team he managed many years ago.
Arteta would like to show his former boss just how good his side has become, particularly after the summer additions. With the likes of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber slowly getting acclimatized to their new surroundings, the overall chemistry of the squad is going to go up.
The players would also be happy to be back home and play in front of fans who have been waiting a long time to get a glimpse of them. If the midfield three for the Gunners can maintain their shape, then it will be quite easy to get the win.
Arsenal have a chance to add another win to their preseason before facing off against Manchester City for the Community Shield. Though a win is expected, Monaco should be treated with respect. Arteta will be keen to see which of his players impresses the most.
