According to Italian publication, La Repubblica, Arsenal have lodged a formal offer for Dusan Vlahovic as the Gunners ramp up their efforts to secure the services of the Serbian marksman.
The 21-year-old has been on impressive form this season, scoring 16 goals in just 19 league appearances. He is considered an integral part of the Italian club, but his future remains uncertain after negotiations for a contract extension broke down.
The north Londoners are on the lookout for a new striker, with less than six months left on the contracts of Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette. Former captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, is doubtful of playing for Arsenal again after being frozen out of the squad due to a disciplinary breach.
As per reports in La Repubblica, Vlahovic is at the top of Edu’s transfer targets for the winter. The club have tabled an offer in the vicinity of £58.4million. The player and his agents are said to be assessing their options before a decision is made.
The report also claims that Fiorentina’s president, Rocco Commisso, is now considering cashing in on the striker while his market value is on the rise. However, Vlahovic wants to play European football, which could be a major setback in the Emirates club’s pursuit for the player. Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid are the other clubs in the race for the Serbian international.
Arsenal Fever View:
The north Londoners have turned a corner since the underwhelming start to the campaign, and things are looking up. They are within touching distance of a Champions League spot. And perhaps, a marquee signing like Vlahovic could propel them closer towards achieving their targets.
Arteta has missed the services of a striker who is capable of leading the line. The Fiorentina man can provide just that. He is excellent at holding off defenders and creating space for himself to shoot. His impressive physical stature makes him a huge presence in the final third and is a constant threat in the air.
Arsenal have exciting players like Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Martin Odegaard in advanced positions. The addition of Vlahovic would make the Gunners a formidable attacking force.
