Arsenal have reportedly received a boost in their potential attempt to sign Bordeaux’s Malcom during the summer transfer window.
The Brazilian footballer was touted as one of the Gunners’ main attacking targets in January, but the club eventually turned their attention towards signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with the former arriving in a straight-swap deal involving Alexis Sanchez.
Since then, the speculation over Malcom has diminished owing to concerns over the Gunners’ performance during the month of February, in particular.
However, the club have now been handed a possible boost to sign Malcom, with Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes clarifying his stance on the player.
The Bavarian giants have made it a recent trend to recruit uprising prospects from Europe’s top-five divisions, but Heynckes has clearly stressed that the club are not chasing a deal for the South American prospect.
“I have never seen him play. Therefore, I am not able give an opinion on him. But I don’t think there is interest here.
“He always gets put into the shopping window but nobody really goes after him,” he is quoted as saying by The Mail.
Malcom had been keen on a winter move to the Premier League and he had hinted via Instagram that he was taking English grammar lessons.
However, he could not receive his wish after Bordeaux opted to recruit Gus Poyet as their new head coach with the assurance that the Brazilian will remain with the club for the season.
The 21-year-old has managed a reasonably tally of eight goals and six assists in 26 appearances for the French outfit this term, and Arsenal may expect competition from arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who were also associated with the services of the former Corinthians ace.
