Arsenal are all set to play Barcelona in the final of the Joan Gamper trophy on Sunday and they are set to get some welcome news in the form of two returning stars, according to reports in Evening Standard.
Lucas Torreira hasn’t featured this pre-season after the midfielder took an extended break following Uruguay’s exit at the Copa America, but has returned to the club and trained this week.
Along with the midfielder, striker Alexandre Lacazette has also returned to training after he injured his ankle in the Emirates Cup game against Lyon.
The return of the striker is especially important for manager Unai Emery as he has become one of the most important members of the squad. He is expected to be fit for the first Premier League game of the season against Newcastle United which will kick off on the 11th of August.
Torreira was a crucial player for his national team and played a big part in their Copa America campaign. As a result of this, the midfield dynamo was given an extended break and now he is line to make his first appearance in pre-season for Arsenal.
These two will be crucial in the season going forward as they will probably be one of the first names that make it to the team sheets.
Torreira joined the Gunners in the summer of 2018 and quickly went on to establish himself as one of the signings of the year. Though his form somewhat tailed off to the end of the season, he was still one of the best players on the pitch for Arsenal.
This was expected given that he was used to having a winter break which does not happen in the Premier League. Lacazette on the other hand went on to be named as the player of the season by the fans due to his all round play that saw him notch up quite a few goals and assists as well.
It is great news for Arsenal that these two have made a return to training as it means that Emery does not have to make a lot of changes to his plans. Fans will be hoping that these two players will push the Gunners into a top four spot at the end of the season.
