Arsenal are reportedly interested in triggering the £32.25m release clause of RB Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams, according to reports in SportBILD(via Metro).
The American international played for New York Red Bulls before joining RB Leipzig in 2019. He has made 79 appearances for the club since arriving, including 13 outings in all competitions during the 2021-22 campaign.
The 22-year-old is a versatile player, who is capable of playing in midfield or at right full-back. His impressive performances have also earned him 20 international caps for his country.
Metro claim the Gunners were interested in signing him last summer transfer window, but the transfer did not materialize after the club splashed out the cash to reinforce other areas of the pitch.
SportBILD are claiming that the north Londoners have reignited their pursuit for the Bundesliga star. They are planning to trigger his £32.25m release clause next summer to secure his services. His excellent performances in the Champions League have made him a target for many clubs in Europe.
The German outfit have been happy to sell its player in the past, however, the report claims that Arsenal would have to pay the entire release clause to sign him, as Leipzig are not prepared to engage in any negotiations.
Arsenal Fever View:
Although the Gunners reinforced their midfield department last summer with Martin Odegaard and Albert Sambi Lokonga, it feels like they are short in the middle of the pitch. Thomas Partey has been struggling with fitness, and Granit Xhaka is recovering from an knee injury, leaving just Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Mohamed Elneny as reliable alternatives.
Adams can bring versatility and squad depth to Mikel Arteta’s side. While Takehiro Tomiyasu has pretty much cemented his place on the right flank, it is important to have a cover for the Japanese. The Leipzig man is more than capable of filling in at right-back. The futures of Calum Chambers and Cedric Soares at the club is uncertain, therefore this would prove to be a sensible transfer.
Adams is also just 22-years-old, with plenty of time to hone his skills and transform into one of the best in the business. He could be an asset to the club and might become a mainstay in the team for years to come.
