Arsenal got back to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 win over Newcastle United and will make the trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United, so let’s take a look at the predicted lineup.
Though the manager has a good record against Manchester United, it is going to be difficult playing them especially under new management. The Gunners would have to be at their best to get the win over one of their biggest rivals.
The defence more or less picks itself and we will see Aaron Ramsdale start in goal. Though Nuno Tavares was hugely impressive in the Newcastle win, Arteta might go for Kieran Tierney to add a little more solidity. On the right side, Takehiro Tomiyasu will take his usual place.
In the centre of defence, the north Londoners have the luxury of selecting their first-choice duo in Ben White and Gabriel. The two have complemented each other very well but will have to be on their toes to keep the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes quiet.
As for the central midfield, Thomas Partey and Albert Sambi Lokonga would be the ones to make the start. Partey has been a bit lacklustre in the last few games and will look to produce a similar performance to the one at Old Trafford last year.
The Gunners are more likely to return to a 4-4-2 formation and that will see Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe play on the wings. Their ability to cut inside allows the full backs to go forward and stretch the game.
Up front, Arteta would like to have the presence of Alexandre Lacazette along with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Frenchman is excellent at holding up the ball and that is important when trying to play against United. The two will have to be clinical to give the visitors a chance of winning.
Arsenal have done well against Manchester United in the recent past, but this is going to be a different kind of test. Arteta will be aware of the attacking firepower the hosts possess and would want his team to defend in a coherent manner.
