Arsenal go into Sunday’s match against Everton hoping for a miracle to get them into the top four and qualify for the Champions League, so let’s take a look at the predicted lineup.
The Gunners went to Newcastle United last Monday hoping to win and maintain a lead over Tottenham. But it was not to be as they capitulated and currently find themselves in fifth place. Only a win at the weekend and a Tottenham loss can push Arteta and his men into the fourth spot.
Aaron Ramsdale could have done better to save the first goal against the Magpies and would be keen on doing better against the Toffees. Takehiro Tomiyasu had to be substituted in the last match and that could see Cedric return as the right-back. Nuno Tavares will start as the left-back.
In the centre of defence, there is a chance that Rob Holding comes back for Ben White as his suspension is now completed. The former Brighton and Hove Albion man did not look his fittest at St. James’ Park and could be given a rest. Holding should start the game along with Gabriel.
In midfield, this game will once again see the duo of Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka. They were too easily bypassed at Newcastle and will have to be better against Everton who have been in good form lately.
Though Emile Smith Rowe started on Monday, he looked a bit off the pace and that could see Gabriel Martinelli return to the starting XI. The new No. 11 will play along with Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.
Eddie Nketiah will probably be playing his final game for the north Londoners as he leads the attack on Sunday. If the Englishman can get his name on the scoring charts, it will improve the team’s chances of winning.
Arsenal know that they have left the Champions League to slip away from their hands. Regardless of what happens with Tottenham, the hosts need to ensure that they finish the season on a high. A comfortable win over Everton would go a long way in achieving that.
