Arsenal had a disappointing exit in the Carabao Cup in midweek and they will now be at home in the Premier League as Burnley come visiting on Sunday, so let’s take a look at the predicted lineup.
After doing well to get out of Anfield with the tie level, the Gunners would have been confident of overcoming the Reds. But the visitors’ superior quality took them to the final. The manager will be hoping that his team can bounce back and continue their fight for the Champions League spots.
Aaron Ramsdale will be in goal and will look to continue his impressive run of form. As for the full backs, it is going to be Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney on the right and left flanks. It is unlikely that Arteta would want to change this combination.
The same can be said about the centre backs with Ben White and Gabriel starting the game. These two have formed an excellent pairing and will have to be at their best to keep the Burnley attackers at bay. They will particularly have to be careful about set pieces as that is one area the visitors excel at.
In central midfield, there is a real lack of options for the north Londoners as both Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey are suspended. Albert Sambi Lokonga is the only available midfielder and there is a good chance that the hosts will go with a 4-3-3.
With Lokonga at the base of the midfield, it would mean that Martin Odegaard and Emile Smith Rowe start as the other two central players. Though this worked to an extent against Liverpool, there is a good chance that it works better on Sunday.
That leaves the front three and Arsenal are likely to go with the same trio they played during the week. Bukayo Saka will be on the right and Gabriel Martinelli on the left, both the youngsters should have a lot of room to showcase their skills. Alexandre Lacazette will lead the line for the Gunners as they need to get the three points. If the forwards are a little more clinical, Arteta will be happy with the game’s outcome.
Arsenal Predicted Lineup Against Burnley (4-3-3):
Aaron Ramsdale, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ben White, Gabriel, Kieran Tierney, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Emile Smith Rowe, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Alexandre Lacazette
