Now that Unai Emery has left Arsenal, the eyes will be on the person who will replace him. At the moment, the club has put Freddie Ljungberg in charge of the team as a caretaker manager.
His first match did not go to plan as the North London club struggled to break down an enterprising Norwich side. Now, there have been suggestions given as to who they should be appointing next.
Former Arsenal player David Seaman has weighed in on this. According to Metro, he said:
“The name that I keep going back to now is Poch! ‘If you asked the players if they would take him now and I bet you a good 90% of them would say yes.”
Seaman was referring to former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino who was sacked recently by the Gunners’ North London rivals. The Argentine would be a controversial appointment given the history that exists between the two clubs.
But a move like this has happened in the past with the most prominent example being that of Sol Campbell who made a shock move to Arsenal and ended up winning a lot of trophies.
The most attractive aspect of moving to the other side of North London would be that Pochettino can show what Spurs missed out on. He will be a man with a point to prove and what better way to do that then by taking their biggest rivals and making them succeed.
It will be difficult for the Arsenal board to convince the Argentine to jump over the divide but he will be a good fit for the club. During his time at Spurs, he showed that the he can coach a side to play a pressing, intense style of football.
He challenged for the Premier League and even made it to the final of the UEFA Champions League last season. Arsenal need to get back on track after the Unai Emery appointment didn’t work out the way they would have liked it to.
This is an opportunity for the club to set things right and one way they can do that is by getting a top-tier coach for the team. Pochettino is definitely that kind of a coach and it will be a huge coup for the Gunners to get him.
