Arsenal are reportedly the sole Premier League club in the running to sign Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette this summer. The 25-year-old is due to part ways with Les Gones for a fresh challenge overseas next season.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been a long-term admirer of his fellow compatriot having first courted interest in the marksman in the summer of 2015.
The FA Cup finalists has since kept a constant contact with the player’s representatives but unfortunately, there have been unable to strike a deal with the Ligue 1 club.
According to France Football, via Football.London, the north London giants will not face any domestic competition for the player’s services – though they will have to contend with interest from European rivals AC Milan and Atletico Madrid.
Lacazette has emerged as a top performer in French football over the years, and he has amassed over 20 goals in each of his last four seasons – including this one, which is likely to turn out to his best.
Despite this, he has not managed to cement a regular spot in the Les Bleus’ setup with Didier Deschamps more content to utilise the services of services of Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann, both of whom are plying their trade outside of France.
With the World Cup coming up next year, Lacazette would be hoping to earn a recall to the national side, and a move to a foreign club could improve his chances of making the cut ahead of several other top performers including Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe.
Lacazette, who last earned a France call-up in October 2015, has notched 31 goals across all competitions for Lyon this term. He is currently valued in the £60m range.
