Sunday was a day to remember for Arsenal as they comprehensively got the better of Tottenham by 3-1 and the only negative aspect of the game was the injury that Granit Xhaka suffered.
Now, after an image was posted by his wife on her Instagram page, those worries have increased. The Swiss midfielder was seen in the photo wearing a protective leg brace. It got affected after Lucas banged into the player because of his momentum.
After the game, manager Mikel Arteta was asked about his player’s injury and the Spaniard responded by saying:
“I’m pretty worried because it doesn’t look very positive at the moment.”
And according to Dr. Rajpal Brar, the way Xhaka’s knee rotated it might turn out to be a case of ligament damage. If that were to happen, the Gunners would have to do without one of their most important players for a long time.
And now, we have an update on Xhaka’s situation via Chris Wheatley:
“Granit Xhaka has suffered a ruptured inner ligament in his right knee, according to @AndreasBoeni. Initial diagnosis suggests he’ll be out for at least 6 to 8 weeks.”

Arsenal Fever View:
The good news is that the duration of the player’s absence is not as long as was initially suspected. This should make everyone at the club happy about the outcome, but it is nonetheless a huge blow given how important Xhaka has become.
The Switzerland captain along with Thomas Partey forms the first choice pairing in the centre of the midfield. Now, Arteta will have to think of alternatives to fill in for the injured midfielder. That could see Albert Sambi Lokonga get an extended run.
The other worry for the north Londoners is that they would want to keep Partey fit for as long as possible. The Ghanaian has not had the best luck with injuries since coming to the Emirates and overplaying him could cause a problem.
Arsenal have done really well to get their season back on track but this injury has the potential to derail that momentum and the absence of Xhaka absence will tell us a lot about what this squad is capable of.
