Arsenal are reportedly desperate to part ways with German attacker Mesut Ozil this summer with manager Unai Emery aiming to enhance the budget for the ongoing transfer window.
The 30-year-old had been with the Gunners for the past six seasons but he has come for criticism from a section of the fans over the past year where his performances have considerably dipped.
According to The Sun, the club are facing potential pre-tax losses of nearly £50m for the financial year and Emery may have to offload few first-team stars in order to boost the £45m transfer kitty.
The same publication claims that Ozil is among the leading candidates, who could be shown the exit door, though the same does not remain an easy task this summer.
The likes of Galatasaray, Besiktas, and Fenerbahce are said to baulk at the Gunners’ £30m asking price for the attacker while his hefty £350,000-a-week remains another big stumbling block.
Ozil has not produced a consistent high level of performance since penning a bumper contract extension last year and that has certainly generated criticism towards his showing on the field.
Moreover, he has found himself excluded from matchday squads at certain stages over the past 12 months, and that has given us an idea regarding the manager’s mindset over his output.
Nonetheless, the German continues to be contracted to the club until the summer of 2021 and any move away from the Emirates appears unlikely at the moment with no concrete interest.
Arsenal have yet to make a single signing during this summer’s transfer window, but they are making some progress towards landing the services of Lorient’s Alexis Claude-Maurice.
