Arsenal have reportedly made a formal approach for Barcelona attacker Arda Turan ahead of this summer’s transfer window. The 30-year-old is the subject of a €30m bid from the Gunners as they look to rebuild their squad.
Turan struggled for game time last season as he played second fiddle to the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar in the wider positions.
According to Spanish publication Marca, the FA Cup holders have made an opening bid of around €30m as they seek to offer an escape route to the experienced winger.
The North London club are currently unsure over the future of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, who are both approaching the final year of their contracts, and this has urged them to lodge an attempt to sign Turan ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.
However, Marca suggests that the Gunners are not the only club in the hunt for the former Atletico winger with Inter Milan also vying for his services. Turan currently has three years left on his existing deal at the Camp Nou and the player will not come on the cheap, regardless of the uncertainty over his future.
The former Turkey international made only 14 starts over the course of the previous League campaign, netting three goals and as many assists in the process. He had much of his success in the Copa del Rey and the Champions League with eight goals and two assists in just 10 appearances.
Arsenal will play in the Europa League next season and Turan could provide the much-needed experience to progress further in the tournament, they are deemed favourites to win.
