Arsenal have made an initial enquiry for Sassuolo winger Domenico Berardi along with fellow Premier League clubs Manchester United and Tottenham, as per reports in Gazzetta dello Sport.
The 26-year-old scored 17 goals and registered 8 assists in just 30 appearances for the Italian club. He has also earned 12 caps for Italy.
The winger began his senior career with Sassuolo in 2012, helping the team win the Serie B title and earn promotion to Serie A in his debut season. After almost 10 years with his boyhood club, the player prefers a move away this summer.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the north London club have made an enquiry for Berardi and the report further suggests that it would require €50million to prize him away from his current club. However, the Gunners aren’t the only club after the highly-rated winger as Tottenham and Manchester United have also registered their interests.
The winger is Sassuolo’s all-time record goal-scorer and a leader in the dressing room. So the Neroverdi might be reluctant of letting their star leave but a sizeable offer could lure him away from the club.
The 26-year-old is currently away with the national side for Euro 2020. He has already provided an assist against Turkey in their opening game of the campaign.
Arsenal Fever View:
Berardi is a right-winger, a position in which Arsenal have the likes of Bukayo Saka and Nicolas Pepe. Gabriel Martinelli has also had a few impressive cameos on the left flank. This makes a move for the Italian star completely unnecessary.
Spending this huge amount of money for a left-winger would make more sense considering the Gunners’ lack of threat down that side. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had an underwhelming campaign last season and the Emirates club should be looking to provide him with some competition next season.
Granit Xhaka has been rumored to leave for Roma this season. This would leave a huge void in the midfield for the north Londoners. A midfielder partnering with Thomas Partey is an absolute necessity for the club going into next season. Since Arsenal have failed to qualify for Europe, they would be left with a limited budget. So they do not have the luxury to spend €50million on a right-winger.
