Arsenal make contact with Spanish club to complete deal for 27-year-old midfielder

James Rodriguez

As Arsenal manager Unai Emery has already mentioned the fact that only loan signings are possible, they are looking at all options. This has resulted in some players being linked with the club.

One of them is the Colombian superstar James Rodriguez who is currently signed to Real Madrid. According to reports from the Independent, the Gunners are readying an offer to take Rodriguez to the Emirates.

The midfielder is currently on loan to German giants Bayern Munich and that deal is set to end at the end of this season. Arsenal are looking to bring Rodriguez on a loan deal but it does not appear that doing that is going to be easy.

Real Madrid would prefer to sell him on a permanent basis when he comes back to the Spanish capital. The report in Independent further states that the Colombian would like to fight for his place at Real.

Another factor that could complicate this deal is the proposed transfer targets that Real have in mind. Reports indicate that the Spanish side is interested in bringing both Christian Eriksen and Eden Hazard from London.

The deal for Eriksen, in particular, could alter what happens to Rodriguez. Real could look into offering Tottenham Rodriguez in order to make the deal for Eriksen a little smoother.

As for Arsenal, this deal seems a little strange as manager Unai Emery has shown that he is unwilling to use a traditional No. 10. The Gunners have a player who is among the best to have played in that position and the manager is not comfortable using him.

This makes the link to Rodriguez a little surprising and it would not be too far off if this was just driven by the media. There isn’t a lot of time left in the transfer window so a deal has to be sorted out quickly.

If the Gunners are able to get a player like Rodriguez, it would be a boost for the club. But that will cast further questions on the future of Mesut Ozil but that is a matter for another day.
