Arsenal make contact with £25m-rated defender, PSG ready to sell

Arsenal have reportedly joined the hunt to sign Layvin Kurzawa from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season.

The France international had been of interest to both Tottenham and Chelsea in January but neither were able to negotiate a deal with Les Parisiens.

However, according to RMC Sport, the left-back will be allowed to leave Parc des Princes during the summer after having failed to earn regular gametime.

Kurzawa had been the first-choice left-back during the 2016/17 campaign but he has not enjoyed a similar run this term with Yuri Berchiche being preferred for nearly half of the Les Parisiens’ games.

As per RMC, the Gunners have joined the pursuit of the £25m-rated defender, who is seemingly keen on a fresh challenge in the summer.

Nacho Monreal, Sead Kolasinac and Ainsley Maitland-Niles have all featured on the left side of the Gunners’ backline this term but the former’s long-term future is likely to be in consideration.

The 32-year-old has just one year left on his existing deal and Kurzawa could be seen as a competitor to the Spaniard, considering Kolasinac has struggled to impress this term.

Meanwhile, Maitland-Niles has also shown plenty of promise in the position but his future is likely to lie at the heart of the midfield, where he produced a sublime performance versus Manchester United earlier this month.

Despite Arsene Wenger leaving, the club appear to have stepped up transfer discussions for new players ahead of the World Cup and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat seems to be playing a key role in the process.
