According to the latest reports emerging from Italy(via La Nazione), Arsenal are in the pole position to sign Dusan Vlahovic as they look to reinforce their attacking options in the coming transfer window.
The Serbian striker joined Fiorentina in 2018 and has amassed 97 appearances for the club. He has attracted admiring glances from several clubs in Europe after an impressive goal-scoring run last season that saw him net 21 goals in 37 games. He seems to have continued that form this term, having already scored eight times in the Serie A.
As per La Nazione, the north Londoners are the frontrunners to secure the services of the 21-year-old. Despite his current deal expiring in 2023, the Serie A outfit are demanding a huge sum for their star, one Arsenal are prepared to shell out.
The report further claims Fiorentina are determined to keep him until the end of this season, but any offer above the €70M mark could lure them into selling him. The player himself is pushing for a move away after refusing to sign a new contract.
However, Arsenal face competition from Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Juventus in signing Vlahovic. Gianluca di Marzio claimed a couple of days back that the Emirates club have reached an agreement to sign the striker.
Arsenal Fever View:
The north Londoners are expected to strengthen their striking department in the coming window. While Alexandre Lacazette has rediscovered his form and has become a regular starter in recent games, his time at the Emirates is coming to a close. His contract expires at the end of this season, without any progress in talks on a new deal.
Eddie Nketiah did have a promising start to the last campaign. However, he has fallen down the pecking order this term. As things stand, he is also destined to leave on a free transfer next summer.
Vlahovic is a natural finisher and boasts a physical presence in the penalty box. He can use his pace to get behind the defenders. His involvement during the build-up play is also impressive as he does not shy away from dropping deep to link up passes.
The 21-year-old is extremely accomplished for someone of his age and going by club’s recent trend of recruiting young players, the Serbian fits the bill perfectly. €70m is a huge amount of money for a young player. Nevertheless, this is a massive sign of intent from the club.
