Cengiz Under joined Roma in 2017, and after a slow start has had a brilliant first season, netting 8 goals and creating 2 assists.
According to a report from Italian website Tuttomercato(as per Express), Arsenal have offered £26m for the young winger and his current club, Roma, have rejected the bid along with rejecting a £31m bid from French side Monaco.
It is now believed that the Italian club have asked for approximately £44m for the forward, rating him as a player with great potential after a stellar season. It is unclear whether Arsenal will follow up with a suitable bid but it looks very likely.
Under has had an extensive youth career both Internationally and at club level and since making his International debut in 2016 the young player has made 8 appearances, scoring 4 goals for his country.
The winger currently holds the record for the youngest Turkish player to ever score in the Champions League after playing in the campaign that led Roma to the semi-finals of the Champions League.
With Iwobi as one of the first-choice wingers for Arsenal and the departure of Theo Walcott in the January transfer window, the position may need further depth which Under could offer.
A signing like Under would be exactly the type of signing to continue Arsene Wenger’s legacy of bringing in exciting young players and coaching them to fulfill their potential.
If Under does sign in this transfer window, he looks like he has the quality to play first team football straight away.
It is rare to find a player with so much potential who is also good enough to play at the top level of football at the age of 20. Under looks to be well worth his £44m price tag, and whomever the new manager of Arsenal is, he should consider this a vital transfer.
