Arsenal have reportedly entered the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio who is unhappy with his role at Santiago Bernabeu, as per Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda.
The 25-year-old joined Los Blancos back in 2015 from RCD Mallorca. The midfielder started his career brilliantly under former manager Zinedine Zidane and was thought to be one of the best young talents in Spanish football. However, after suffering a long-term injury setback last season, the midfielder has lost his way a bit.
Speaking on El Chiringuito(via Diario Madridista), Eduardo Inda stated that Asensio is weighing up the option of leaving the Spanish capital as the midfielder is not happy with his game time under Carlo Ancelotti.
The journalist also claimed that if this situation does not change anytime soon then the former Mallorca man could be open to leaving the club in January.
Despite struggling to find regular first-team action at Real Madrid, there is no shortage of interest in the Spain international as Liverpool, Arsenal, Juventus and AC Milan are keen on signing the Spaniard.
The report further added that the north London club could be a perfect destination for the highly-rated midfielder but a move to the Emirates Stadium might be a downgrade for Asensio, given that the Gunners failed to qualify for any European competition.
Arsenal Fever View:
Signing Marco Asensio will certainly be a great acquisition for Arsenal. The midfielder has already showcased his talent in La Liga over the past few seasons and the Emirates faithful will be hoping that the Spaniard can replicate that form if Mikel Arteta’s side were to sign the 25-years-old.
He has displayed versatility at Santiago Bernabeu as he can play on both flanks and the midfielder also has the ability to ply his trade in the attacking midfield position. The Spain international has the tendency of scoring goals in important fixtures.
With Nicolas Pepe struggling to keep up with expectations at the Emirates, the club might be weighing up their options with Asensio. The midfielder’s technical ability will also be an apt fit for Arteta’s style of play.
After enjoying four victories in a row, Arsenal have hit a stumbling block against Brighton & Hove Albion. The north London club were completely outplayed by Graham Potter’s side but thankfully they managed to come away with a point due to some wayward finishing from the Seagulls.
The Gunners will be looking to get back to winning ways when they meet Crystal Palace on 18th October after the international break.
