As the defensive options change on an almost hourly basis, Tuttomercatoweb has released the name of a new candidate to bolster Arsenal’s defence, Moroccan born, Medhi Benatia, currently with Juventus.
Benatia joins a seemingly bottomless barrel of names to plug the gaps in the Gunners defensive lines but it’s said that Sven Mislintat and Raul Sanllehi are trying to tempt the £20 million defender to the Emirates with a prominent offer.
Benatia is held in high regard by both of Arsenal’s top men along with Freiburg’s Caglar Soyuncu and Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who are also thought to be on the gunners wish list.
The deal may prove problematic with the player’s involvement in the World cup and the window of opportunity to clinch the deal may be short, yet it’s said that the player is tempted at the prospect of a new challenge in the Premier League.
He may even get the opportunity to link up with Juventus teammate, Stephan Lichtsteiner, who apparently is extremely close to making the move to Arsenal.
It appears that Arsenal are looking to the Italian league to add a crucial defensive dimension to the squad and comes on the back of interest for Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira.
There is an obvious sense of urgency regarding Arsenal’s transfer dealings due to the complications of the World Cup and the possible inflated prices due to decent performances on the worlds brightest stage.
Announcements could follow early next week on two additions thought to be Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Stephan Lichtsteiner.
The next few weeks look as if they will be eventful, to say the least, as Arsenal attempt to reinvent themselves and begin a complete overhaul
