Arsenal have reportedly started talks with Ajax winger David Neres with the intention of signing the player in the summer transfer window, according to reports in Telegraph.
The 22-year-old is having a brilliant season for Ajax, scoring 11 goals and grabbing 10 assists in all competitions. The winger is known for being clinical in front of goal and has played as both a striker and a winger for the club.
The Telegraph is reporting that the North London have already made contact with Ajax regarding a summer transfer for the player, who is valued at around €40million (£34.5m).
However, many big clubs are circling to get Neres’ signature, including Everton, who have also initiated talks with Ajax, Manchester United, and Chelsea(pending their transfer ban).
Despite Arsenal’s recent triumph over Napoli in the Europa League, the club may be in more trouble than it realizes. Aaron Ramsey is set to depart this summer and Unai Emery needs to bring in some more depth in midfield.
The Welsh midfielder has consistently been on the score sheet for the Emirates club and his presence will be sorely missed, someone like Neres could be perfect to fill the gap.
As well as being a sharpshooter, the Brazilian has shown himself to be a rapid force down the wing, leaving many defenders in the dust. Neres signed for Ajax in February 2017 from Brazilian side Sao Paolo.
Following the move, he made an immediate impact, scoring 14 goals and creating 11 assists, becoming a regular starter for the Dutch side and more recently the Brazilian national team.
The Gunners will face a huge challenge to push through the transfer that is expected to cost around £35 million with heavy competition from other clubs. However, if the North London side can qualify for the champions league, then the club will have a great chance of getting him on board.
