Arsenal will be happy that they got back to winning ways by beating West Ham in a 3-1 win on Monday. This was the first win for caretaker manager Freddie Ljungberg but that has not stopped the rumors regarding the next full-time manager.
The North London club have reportedly made a move to get in a new man and as per ESPN, Arsenal have already held talks with former Valencia boss Marcelino.
The report states that Marcelino was in London and the club reportedly met him face-to-face to discuss a deal that might bring him to the Emirates on a permanent basis.
The good news for the club is that the 56-year-old is keen to take over if offered the opportunity. However, Marcelino is not convinced that he will be afforded that opportunity considering he is Spanish and this might put him at a disadvantage.
This was the same problem that his compatriot Unai Emery had and it did not help him one bit. Marcelino had a very impressive year in charge of Valencia during the 2018/19 season.
He was able to get them back into the Champions League and the crowning achievement was the Copa Del Rey final win over Barcelona. All of this made his departure from the Spanish club feel quite surprising.
He might not necessarily be the most exciting choice that the Gunners could go with at the moment but it is important to get someone into the club as soon as possible, as having a temporary manager at the helm for long will only complicate matters.
Current caretaker boss Ljungberg will be hoping that he can stabilize the fortunes of the team before a permanent choice is announced. Arsenal are in the middle of a crossroads and are trying to gain a foothold in the post Arsene Wenger era.
Getting a manager with a clear vision is essential to ensuring that the fortunes of the club are transformed for the better. Marcelino would be happy with the fact that a club of Arsenal’s stature is interested in bringing him in.
The club should get back to the Champions League and if the Spaniard is able to steady the ship and achieve that, it will prove to be an astute appointment by the Gunners.
