Unai Emery is apparently looking to bolster his attacking options by going for a £47m deal. Emile Forsberg currently plays for Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.
The 26-year-old player has been very solid in past season, scoring five goals and providing four assists in his 33 appearances for the team, with the side eventually finishing 6th in the League.
The report in Sun, claims that the North London club have initiated contact with RB Leipzig for midfield star Emil Forsberg.
However, it was the previous season where the player really shone, grabbing an amazing 22 assists along with eight goals in 31 games. It was this season the winger started to really turn heads across Europe.
The transfer may be a confusing one to pursue for many Arsenal fans, with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, it might be strange to strengthen an already impressive attacking outfit instead of trying to solve Arsenal’s defensive problems.
In a transfer window where Emery has reportedly been given a much depleted transfer budget of around £70m in comparison to staggering budgets of other top 6 sides, transfers like this may cost vital funds needed for Defensive transfers.
With players like Caglar Soyuncu looking a very likely signing for a hefty £30m, it would arguably make much more sense to use the remaining funds to further bolster the defence or midfield than buying a winger.
Given Arsenal conceded a huge 51 goals in the past season, more than any other top 6 side, it must be seen as absolutely vital for Emery to overhaul the defence with some new signings.
Fans and pundits alike can only speculate as to how the new manager will play this transfer window. Many believe the new manager must make some big signings in both defensive and midfield areas for the window to be considered a success.
As well as this some fans are calling for a few player’s exit from the club, with Shkodran Mustafi having a poor season and a large base calling for his sale.
