Injuries and Arsenal are a story as old as time. One cannot think of a single season where the Gunners have not been affected by injuries to key players at important junctures in the season.
This season alone, we have seen season-ending injuries to Rob Holding, Danny Welbeck and Hector Bellerin, while many other players have been in and out of the team due to injury concerns.
Shkodran Mustafi, Granit Xhaka and Sokratis are set to give the North London club a triple boost on the injury front as the trio have returned to training, as per pictures shared on Arsenal’s official website of the training session during the week
Although it’s not yet clear if they will play any part in the game against Huddersfield, seeing them back in training will be a big relief for Unai Emery. The fitness of Xhaka, in particular, is crucial for the club as the team has struggled in his absence.
Though we have seen players such as Matteo Guendouzi show a lot of promise, Arsenal are just not the same team without the Swiss midfielder. He is the one who links everything together and getting him back into the fold is imperative.
As for Sokratis, he has been highly impressive in the heart of defense as his pace and experience has proven to be a calming influence for the rest of the team. He was injured in the FA Cup game against Manchester United and had to be substituted.
There is a real lack of numbers in the defensive end for the Gunners and getting players back is necessary if the club are serious about returning to the Champions League.
Getting there is going to prove to be quite a task as Arsenal are facing some fierce competition from both Chelsea and Manchester United. This injury boost has come at the right time and fans will be hoping that the team can really kick on from here and finish the season on a successful note.
The Gunners will be facing Huddersfield on Saturday while Chelsea will be up against the defending champions Manchester City.
