Arsenal are reportedly set to renew their interest in Monaco forward Kylian Mbappe this summer but the Gunners will face tough competition from Europe’s top clubs, according to reports in the Independent
The 18-year-old has become one of the most sought after young talents in European football after establishing himself in the Monaco team this season.
Mbappe has been in great form in Ligue 1 this season and has also impressed one and all with his performance against Man City in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Arsene Wenger is a fan of the youngster and recently compared the forward with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
Here is what the boss had to say about Kylian:
“Mbappe has similarities to Thierry Henry. He has a huge talent.”
The report in Independent claims that Premier League duo of Arsenal and Man City tried to sign the forward in the summer. However, their failure to snap up the youngster will cost them dearly as other European heavyweights are also expected to rival them for Mbappe when the transfer window re-opens.
The likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Man City are all vying for Mbappe’s signature. That’s not the only thing as the report further states that Monaco will demand a fee well in excess of £50m for the teenagers signature.
Mbappe was available for around £40m last summer, but will now cost around £75m including add-ons after his eye-catching displays this season.
The youngster looks to possess all the talents to make it big in Europe, however the transfer fees that is currently being discussed clearly rules Arsenal out unless Monaco drastically reduce their demands.
It is really tough to spend such huge money on an 18-year-old who just had one good season in France, but you know how the transfer markets work these days. It remains to be seen how this Mbappe story pans out, however from an Arsenal perspective, we are basically out of the picture.
But he definitely joins the ever growing list of players, we almost signed!
