Arsenal could secure their second signing of the summer transfer window after having agreed on a £6.9m deal (release clause) with KAS Eupen for Nigerian striker Henry Onyekuru.
The 19-year-old has attracted interest from several English clubs including Brighton & Hove Albion and Swansea City following a standout season in Belgium where he has contributed 25 goals and 14 assists.
An exclusive report from Soccer Nigeria suggests that the player will be heading to the Emirates this summer with the Gunners having won the race for the forward ahead of the chasing pack.
“Henry (Onyekuru) is close to becoming a Gunner, the transfer fee has been agreed and his weekly wages and other personal terms have been agreed.” a source close to the player told Soccer Nigeria.
Onyekuru, who recently earned his maiden Nigeria call-up, has made his mark in the Jupiler League owing to his excellent speed with the ball with most of his goals coming from the left side of the attack.
The 19-year-old is said to have already finalised terms over a £35,000 a week contract, and an announcement could be made as soon as the Gunners resolve the future of manager Arsene Wenger.
Wenger has ‘verbally agreed‘ to a two-year extension with the FA Cup holders, and the club are likely to release a statement on the manager’s renewal as early as Wednesday.
Should things go as planned, Onyekuru will be the Gunners’ second recruit of the summer following the Bosman agreement to sign defender Sead Kolasinac from German club Schalke 04.
