Arsenal fans have reacted to reports of the club’s alleged interest in signing English forward Raheem Sterling.
The England international joined City back in 2015 amassing 302 appearances. The 26-year-old has been instrumental in their emphatic performances in recent years but has just started two league games this season despite having an impressive outing with the Three Lions at the Euro 2020.
According to Daily Star, Mikel Arteta has made Sterling a top priority for the summer transfer window. With just 20 months left on his contract, talks on an extension are ongoing at a slow pace amid his lucrative wage demands.
The report further claims that Arteta had developed an excellent relationship with the winger during his time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at City. If the club and the player cannot come to an agreement on the terms of the new deal, City are likely to sell him next summer rather than losing him for free.
This situation has proved to become favorable for the Gunners’ pursuit of Sterling. Some fans have urged Arsenal to secure his services, While a certain section of fans are doubtful if this move will materialize. Here are some of the best reactions:
What a signing it would be, Sterling is a very good and experienced player and would fit perfectly in the left side

Looking at his wages alone shows that we can’t afford him. I’d like to see him at the Emirates though.

Arsenal Fever View:
The former Liverpool star is undoubtedly one of the best in the business. He would add an extra dimension to Arsenal’s attack. He is also a versatile player who can be deployed as a left-winger, right-winger, and a false nine. However, with talented youngsters like Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe, accommodating Sterling would be a tedious task for Arteta.
Another stumbling block on the potential deal could be his transfer fee. Although the 26-year-old just has a year left in his contract, Manchester City would look to cash in on him as they spent a fortune to acquire his services from Liverpool. But if they agree to let him go for a cut-price deal, then the north Londoners securing his services makes sense.
In all fairness, Sterling would only be attracted by a move to Arsenal if the club qualifies for European football next season. The summer transfer window is still a long time away and if the contract talks continue to be in a stalemate, the Emirates could be a likely destination for the Englishman.
