As per a report from talkSPORT, Arsenal are set to submit a bid for Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
The 23-year-old became the first choice for the Blades after Dean Henderson returned to Manchester United following a loan spell. Despite the impressive performances of the Englishman, Sheffield got relegated.
According to the report, the Gunners are ready to launch a bid in the range of £30m as they consider Ramsdale to be their number one target. The north Londoners prefer him over his countryman Sam Johnstone.
This news drew some interesting responses from Arsenal fans who had a lot to say about the potential transfer of the keeper. Here are some of the best reactions:
It’s not possible….we can’t be that stupid

Spending £30m on a backup keeper? Bernd Leno must be off then? It doesn’t make sense..

Imagine selling the best keeper we had for £20m to Villa then a season later buying a keeper worse than the one we opted to keep for £30m, the most Arsenal thing ever

We’re basically a money laundering operation at this stage .. it’s the only explanation

Make a bid of 25m for Emiliano M, and bring him back with a apologies.

PLEASE don’t let this be true… It is just to awful to think about. We let Emi go for under £20 millon, and buying Ramsdale for £30.??!!
Have they gone completely mad.???— Tim Bartley (@bartleytim) July 21, 2021
£30m for a backup GK is ridiculous

Arsenal Fever View
If the Gunners are going to be spending so much on the shot-stopper, it indicates that they see him as someone for the long-term. And that would mean the future of Bernd Leno also comes into play as the German has only two years left on his contract.
As for Ramsdale, he is an excellent keeper and someone who has the potential to become a world-class talent. But for the price that is being quoted, it seems a bit high especially when there are other areas of the squad that have more pressing needs such as a creative midfielder.
The fact that the England international is homegrown does make this signing a bit more attractive and is indicative of the north Londoners’ approach to this market. They are close to wrapping up a deal for Ben White and have been heavily linked with a move for James Maddison. This shows that they want to buy young, homegrown English talent but that often comes at a premium.
This is a curious move and it is hard to see why the club would be keen on a move but we will know more about it in the next few days. Arsenal have made a good start to the transfer window but there is still a lot of work to be done. If they can sort out those issues first, the Gunners can then focus on buying Ramsdale.
