Arsenal had their unbeaten streak ended by Liverpool on Saturday and despite the number of goals scored, goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was head and shoulders above the rest of the players.
The Gunners went into the international break just two points off the Reds and could have leapfrogged them with a win. But despite being more or less on even terms, they conceded just before half time.
And once the second half began, the hosts got onto the front off and pounced on mistakes that the north Londoners were making. The visitors could not string together much in terms of attack and that hurt their chances of getting anything from the game.
But the fact that the score line was not worse than this was in large part due to the performance of the new signing from Sheffield United. In the first half, the England international produced a string of saves to keep the scores level.
There was nothing that Ramsdale could have done about the goals, and he is one player who can leave with his head held high. This display was appreciated by Arsenal fans who took to Twitter to showcase their admiration for the keeper. Here are some of the best reactions:
Aaron Ramsdale is like a breath of fresh air. Great, positive attitude combined with top draw ability. He definitely a keeper #afc

Ramsdale deserved so much more. I felt sorry for him today. I’m sure we’ll bounce back and make up for it. We move on and learn from this.

Ramsdale has been cold soo far but I’m getting serious deja vu. From when Leno’ debut and made a save from Success and what followed afterwards. Would love to see how he fares in games where we aren’t being peppered.

#AFC | This is gonna sound harsh, but I think that game came at the right time to test ourselves and see where we really are, and I think that performance sums up how far away from Champions League football we are, and how very average we’ve become.
Ramsdale deserved BETTER.

Arsenal Fever View:
There were a lot of doubters when the youngster made the move to north London, but it can safely be said that he has proved them all wrong. Conceding four goals against one of the best teams in the world is not going to change the talent and potential that the 23-year-old has.
In fact, more than the attack, it has been the defence that has allowed the Gunners to keep their unbeaten streak going for such a long time. Both Mikel Arteta and his team must not feel too discouraged having lost this game as it is a learning experience.
Ramsdale has shown that apart from his goalkeeping abilities, he has a fantastic character and presence about him. Arsenal can be confident that the Englishman will put this defeat behind him and look forward to the next game. The former Sheffield man still has a big role to play in the fortunes of the team.
