Arsenal have reportedly failed with an opening bid worth £55m to prise away Cengiz Under from AS Roma during the ongoing transfer window.
The Turkey international has been closely monitored by the Gunners’ scouts since the start of the season and a positive feedback has encouraged the hierarchy to make an approach.
However, according to Fotomac, the proposal to sign the Turk has come to no avail with the Giallorossi declining an offer worth £55m from the north London side.
The Gunners have been hampered in the attacking department with both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Danny Welbeck (season) on the sidelines with injuries while Mesut Ozil has been in-and-out of the starting XI with minor fitness concerns.
As such, Aaron Ramsey has pretty much remained the sole game-changing attacking option from the bench in recent weeks and this appears to have triggered the need for a new recruit from the transfer market.
Nonetheless, there has been no breakthrough in terms of luring Under – dubbed the Turkish Dybala from the Stadio Olimpico, and it remains to be seen whether a renewed approach is made for the highly-rated winger.
Under, who joined the Giallorossi from Istanbul Basaksehir in 2017, has been impressive on the right wing this season, contributing six goals and six assists across all competitions.
Aside from this, he has regularly drafted inside from the right wing to fire shots on goal and this is an attribute which has been missing within the Gunners ranks, barring Granit Xhaka’s occasional attempt from long range.
