As per a report from Daily Star, Arsenal are looking to send Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona before they can bring in Dusan Vlahovic.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with the Serbian forward following his breakthrough last season. The 21-year-old has succeeded in establishing himself as one of the best strikers in Serie A and has started to attract attention from around Europe.
Daily Star are claiming that Barcelona and Newcastle United are interested in signing Aubameyang. The Magpies have the financial strength to pay a majority of the £300,000-a-week that the striker currently earns.
But the north Londoners would prefer to see their Gabonese star move to La Liga and join the Catalan giants. They have spoken to officials at Barcelona regarding a move. But their financial difficulties make it hard for the Spanish club to make any big signings.
The report further claims that the Emirates club feel having Aubameyang for the rest of the season would be a deterrent to the club’s hopes of finishing in the top four. Mikel Arteta views Vlahovic as an upgrade over the former captain and one that would be more suited to the style he wants to play.
Arsenal Fever View:
Given the current striker situation at the Emirates, it is clear to see why the north Londoners are targeting the Serbian forward. Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are out of contract in the summer. And since falling out with the manager and being stripped off the captaincy, it seems unlikely that Aubameyang will play again.
Therefore, the Gunners need to bring in a player that will fit the style of football that is being played right now while also having a lot of potential. This is where the Fiorentina forward fits in perfectly as his combination of skills is the need of the hour.
It would help tremendously if Arsenal are able to push the Vlahovic deal over the line. They first need to move on Aubameyang as that would make any potential transfer much easier to pull off. The north Londoners have given themselves a good chance of finishing in the top four for the first time in a few seasons. Making the right moves will make it easier for them to get Champions League football.
