According to journalist Charles Watts, Arsenal are disappointed with Fiorentina for not opting to sign Lucas Torreira on a permanent deal this summer.
The 26-year-old joined the Italian club on a season-long loan in 2021. He enjoyed an impressive loan spell, making 35 appearances in all competitions for them. The midfielder also won three Player of the Month awards as the club booked a spot in the Europa Conference League.
Fiorentina refused to trigger the €15m option to buy as they tried to negotiate a lower transfer fee with the Gunners. However, both the clubs have not been able to agree on a fee.
According to reports, the Italian outfit tabled a meager offer of €7m for the midfielder. Unsurprisingly, the north Londoners immediately turned it down.
Charles watts has revealed that the Gunners are very disappointed with the recent turn of events. After Torreira’s excellent form in Italy, a permanent move looked inevitable, but the collapse of this transfer has caused slight turbulence in Arsenal’s plans for the summer. While speaking on a podcast with Arseblog, the Journalist said:
“Lucas Torreira – Arsenal are so disappointed with how that one turned out, over what happened with Fiorentina. They thought that one was pretty much a given that was going to happen.”
“Suddenly for it to not happen, then you’re left with the player, it’s just another thing to add to the workload, trying to find him another club.”
“You’d think it wouldn’t be difficult because he had such a good year in Italy last season, that other Italian clubs will be sniffing around, but we’ll see on that one.”
Arsenal Fever View:
Although a switch to the Artemio Franchi now lies in the ruin, the 26-year-old has drawn the attention of other clubs in Europe. He is a hardworking player who would fit into any team’s midfield perfectly.
The difference between Torreira’s performances in England and Italy is night and day. It is quite clear that he is not part of Mikel Arteta’s plans for next season. So, it would only be sensible if the Gunners can find another suitor in Serie A as quickly as possible.
The north London club are in the middle of a massive rebuild and selling wantaway players is an important part of that process. A decent transfer fee could also be a boost in their transfer budget.
