In what will be seen as a financial coup of some sort and a shock to Emirates faithful, Dutch news outlet De Telegraaf claim that Arsenal billionaire shareholder Alisher Usmanov intends to sell off his 30% stake at the club and switch camp to Everton.
Usmanov, a staunch supporter of the Gunners has long been critical of the Gunners transfer activities in recent years which has led to a gradual decline of the London giants.
His long-standing feud with majority shareholder Stan Kroenke appears to be nearing its end if he eventually departs the club as reported.
Farhad Moshiri has ringed in some changes after taking over 58% ownership of Everton and looks set to continue his drive to expand the reach of the Goodison outfit. In the last 48 hour,s Sam Allardyce has left his managerial position and a new manager is yet to be announced yet.
Long-standing members of the coaching staffs have also departed the club and former PSV director Marcel Brands has been announced as the club’s new director of football.
The Dutch news outlet now claim that the Everton Board are keen to bring in the Russian billionaire in a bid to strengthen its financial position and activities in the transfer market.
Mirroring the successes recorded at the Etihad and at Stamford Bridge, massive investments may actually bring the successes the board and fans desperately hope for.
Usmanov was initially rumored to be keen to join Everton on the condition that \e sold his shares at the Emirates but the deal never materialized. With his failures to increase his shareholding at Arsenal so as to earn him more power to influence activities at the club, he may get his wish with a switch to Merseyside.
Everton faithful will welcome the idea of having the billionaire in their fold but while discussions are still in its early stages, this news is one to keep an eye on
