Arsenal have made contact with Corinthians about signing the highly-rated Brazil international Maycon, according to report from Brazilian outlet Esporte.
Arsene Wenger is going all out this summer to sign 2-3 players and have already completed the signing of Swiss international Granit Xhaka for a deal worth £30m while he is also on a lookout for a big name striker after being snubbed by Jamie Vardy.
However, while a standard first team player is Arsene Wenger main concern at this point of time, Brazilian outlet Esporte claims we’ve approached Corinthians about their talented Brazilian International midfielder Maycon.
The report claims Arsenal officials have asked the Brazilian outfit about the youngster and how much the deal will cost us to lure him to the Emirates this summer
Esporte has it that Arsenal are looking towards securing a deal similar to the one Juventus agreed for Matheus Pereira that made the young ace join the Serie A defending champions for an initial €2m(£1.6m) with the fee rising to €7m (£5.8m).
Maycon, 18, joined the club back in 2009 and passed through the youth ranks before breaking in to the club’s first team set-up this year. He will clock 19 next month and was crowned as one of the hottest young talents in Brazilian football, but has found it difficult to play regular football with the Corinthians first team and has spent much of the season playing for the U-20′s.
He wouldn’t qualify for a work permit as he’s only represented his national team at U-17 level so we’d need to apply for a ‘special talent’ visa if we are really desperate to lure the teenager this summer. Else, he will be sent out of the European club for a couple of years to gain a passport.
It’s always difficult to buy youngsters from South America but we could also have the new Lionel Messi or Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior popularly known as Neymar on our hands. However, the North London may struggle to sign Maycon as his representatives are reportedly not keen on him leaving Corinthians anytime soon.
His agent claims he is keen to see him develop himself as a first-team player for the Brazilian outfit before considering a move abroad. Maycon is 80 percent owned by Corinthians, which gives the club more bargaining power when it comes to his future sale.
In recent week, Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Gabriel Barbosa , with reports from broadcaster Radio Bandeirantes claiming he has signed for a ‘top English club’.
