Arsenal are reportedly said to be close to securing the signature of Yannick Ferreira Carrasco from Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang.
The north London side did not experience the best of conclusions to the previous season as they finished outside of the top four while failing to secure trophy success through the Europa League.
As such, they are set to be without Champions League football for the third season running, and that is likely to influence a summer rebuild regardless of the limited budget at hand.
According to Sport, the Gunners are understood to be ‘one step away’ from recruiting Carrasco, having previously missed on his signature during the 2019 winter transfer window.
Back then, the club could not convince Dalian into sanction the attacker’s sale and this saw them recruit Denis Suarez from Barcelona on loan, which has proved a forgettable decision.
Carrasco, 25, has been lively since the beginning of the Chinese Super League season and he has bagged seven goals and two assists from just 10 appearances this term.
The competition in the Far East does not posess the same intensity as in Europe, but the attacker should prove a quality signing for the Gunners judging by his time at Atletico.
Arsenal have lacked the presence of a regular goalgetter from the wings with both Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan struggling last term and Carrasco should prove a genuine upgrade.
Unai Emery’s side are said to be working on a restricted £40m budget for the summer but that is likely to be enhanced with the departure of a few players from the current setup.
