Arsenal manager Unai Emery is understood to be ‘very interested’ in signing midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who is due to leave Paris Saint-Germain on a free this summer.
The north London club recently faced a massive disappointment as they suffered a 4-1 Europa League final defeat to Chelsea and this has meant that they won’t be competing in next season’s Champions League.
As such, the club’s budget for the summer is likely to be limited but that may not completely restrict the transfer business with Emery likely to deal with bargains while garnering more funds from player sales.
According to Paris United, one of the players on Emery’s radar happens to be Rabiot, who is expected to be available on a Bosman when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires next month.
The Frenchman did not make a single appearance for Les Parisiens in the backend of last season after declining a new deal, and he will now have the complete independence to choose his next side.
Emery brought the best out of Rabiot during his two seasons at Parc des Princes and Paris United claims that the Spaniard is very much interested in landing the five-time Ligue 1 winner this summer.
Still, the move does not remain straightforward with competition from arch-rivals Manchester United, who are prepared to meet the player’s wages on top of a significant signing-on fee.
Similarly, the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked and the Gunners’ failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League could give an edge to the pair.
At present, things don’t look bright for the club in terms of the transfer plans for the summer and Emery may have to resort to player sales to boost the kitty to spend on new recruits.
