Arsenal are understood to have monitored the performance of Colombian striker Carlos Bacca during his side’s 3-0 win over Bologna in the Italian Serie A.
The Rossoneri gained valuable three points over the weekend after goals from Deulofeu, Honda and Lapadula assured that they would be plying their trade in next season’s Europa League.
Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb claims that Gunners’ scouts were in attendance at San Siro to track Bacca, who they had failed to sign during the previous transfer window.
The north London club are currently unsure of the position of star forward Alexis Sanchez, who has snubbed a fresh contract beyond 2018, and this has urged them to look for potential recruits prior to the off-season.
The 30-year-old had been heavily linked with a potential switch to the Premier League last summer with West Ham United keen on his signature, but he opted to snub their advances in order to feature for a bigger club in England.
The Colombian has managed just 31 league goals during his two-year spell with the Rossoneri, and though he is not a regular scorer by any means, he still appears to capture the attention of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.
Wenger’s future has also been the subject of speculation in recent weeks, but a report from The Times suggests that he will extend his stay by a further two years regardless of the Gunners’ result in the FA Cup final versus Chelsea.
Bacca had lifted the Europa League title in both seasons at former club Sevilla (2014 & 2015), and he could prove to be a valuable addition to the Gunners ranks as they embark on their first ever journey in Europe’s second-tier competition.
