Arsenal are reportedly still interested in bringing Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar to the Emirates despite completing a move Martin Odegaard, as per journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The north London club have been showing interest in the 23-year-old for quite some time now but a move never materialised. With Odegaard’s permanent signing, it was expected that the club might end their interest in the Frenchman.
Speaking on Don Robbie‘s Youtube channel, Romano stated that the relation between the player’s agent and the club has become complicated in recent times. This could open up the door for Arsenal to sign the midfielder before the end of this transfer window.
The Emirates club are still keeping an eye on Aouar and could make a move if they manage to offload a few players. He said:
“It is a complicated situation on agent’s side, and that’s why I would keep an eye on Aouar till the last day of the window because now still some rumours we have with Tottenham and with Arsenal.
“These two clubs are really interested in Aouar. Arsenal as you know so well they wanted him and they are still keeping an eye on his situation. But it is now important for Arsenal to sell players.”
Arsenal Fever View:
Houssem Aouar will be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal. The midfielder has played in multiple positions during his time at Lyon and his versatility will help Mikel Arteta to implement different systems.
The Frenchman can be deployed as an attacking as well as a defensive midfielder. Alongside Thomas Partey, Aouar could play a deeper role with Odegaard in the creative midfield position. This will be a mouth-watering prospect for the north Londoners.
The 23-year-old endured a difficult season last term for the French player. However, when a player of his quality is available for a cut-price deal it will be foolish to let go of the chance to sign the player.
Nevertheless, Arsenal will have to wrap their transfer business up as soon as possible. With the season having already started, it will take time for the new arrivals to gel with the squad.
