Arsenal are in active talks to sign United States National Team goalkeeper Matt Turner this month, according to reports in Goal.
The 27-year-old has been an integral part of MLS club New England Revolution since 2018. He has made 97 appearances for the club across various competitions and won the 2021 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award, after leading the club to great success last campaign.
Turner’s impressive display between the sticks earned him a call-up to the US national team. Six clean sheets in his first seven appearances for the team, quickly made him a contender for the Number-1 spot. He has been vying with Manchester City keeper Zack Steffen to secure the starting role.
Several US sources are reporting that a bid worth around £5m has already been submitted by Arsenal for the shot-stopper. However, Goal claim that the Revs have not yet received an official offer for the keeper. However, the north Londoners are intensifying their pursuit and are hopeful of securing his signature before the January transfer window closes.
Football journalist, Fabrizio Romano, has also tweeted that the Gunners are in ‘direct contact’ with their US counterparts over the future of Turner. Personal terms for him have been discussed and they won’t be a stumbling block. Negotiations between the clubs will continue in the coming hours.
Here is Romano’s tweet:

Arsenal Fever View:
If Arsenal can secure a deal for Turner, it would likely pave way for the departure of Bernd Leno. The German lost his No.1 spot to Aaron Ramsdale, who has been in excellent form since joining the club last summer. Leno has made just four appearances since August.
The expectation is that after the potential departure of Leno, the USA international would compete with Ramsdale for the spot between the sticks. His recent performances in the MLS and at the international stage suggest he is capable of producing impressive displays at the highest level.
Meanwhile, the Gunners have been knocked out of the EFL Cup by Liverpool in their semi-final clash. The home team struggled in the final third and failed to create any clear-cut chances. However, Arteta and his men wouldn’t dwell on this defeat for too long as they face Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday. They can now shift their entire focus on finishing in the top-four of the League table.
