Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle with Manchester City for the transfer of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus, as per a report from Sky Sports.
The 25-year-old made the move to Manchester in the summer of 2017 and has since established himself as a key member of Pep Guardiola’s side. And in the five years since then, the forward has helped his team win ten trophies including four Premier Leagues.
According to the report, the Gunners have finally struck a deal with City that is said to be worth £45m. Though a fee has been agreed upon, there are still a few details like medical and personal terms that need to be sorted out.
Sky Sports state that this agreement is the culmination of six months of work from the north Londoners. This was done to ensure they were in the pole position to sign the Brazilian star. As per the report, Jesus has expressed his desire to move to the Emirates and the only thing preventing a transfer move was a fee to be agreed upon.
Now with that taken care of, Sky Sports are also claiming that the Gunners will come back with another offer for Raphinha. This was after the first bid was rejected by Leeds United.
Arsenal Fever View:
Given that both Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have left north London, there was a need for Mikel Arteta to sign a striker. And the Spanish boss has decided to go to someone he has already worked with, in the City striker.
Jesus has repeatedly proven that he is a star in attack and is the kind of forward needed at the Emirates. With a propensity to press the opposition defence and a clinical edge in front of the goal, the 25-year-old will be a breath of fresh air. The manager’s prior experience will certainly have played a part in convincing the player to make the move.
It is great news for Arsenal and their fans that the club is looking to conduct its business this early in the window. It shows that they are committed in taking the team forward after missing out on the Champions League last season. Should Raphinha follow the signing of Jesus, the north Londoners start to look really strong.
