Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez could make a surprise return to Barcelona this summer with Neymar on the cusp of sealing his world-record move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Neymar, 25, has already agreed to a five-year deal with the French giants, who are prepared to trigger his staggering £199m release clause while offering him wages of £515,000 a week – after tax.
According to Don Balon, Sanchez is being linked with a comeback with Barcelona who appear to have given up on their pursuit of Liverpool ace Philippe Coutinho.
The Chile international left the Catalan giants for Arsenal back in the summer of 2014 – at a time when Luis Suarez had agreed to join the Spanish giants.
Sanchez has since become a fan favourite at the Emirates with nearly a goal scored in every other game but his future remains uncertain with his contract due to expire next summer.
Wenger has constantly stressed that the 28-year-old will remain in the club’s ranks for the upcoming campaign, but there is a possibility that he could be allowed to join a foreign club for a significant fee.
Paris Saint-Germain have been credited with an interest in Sanchez in recent weeks, but their record move for Neymar could see the Chilean make a potential comeback with Barca instead.
Sanchez could have the opportunity to drift into his preferred left-wing role under new boss Ernesto Valverde whilst also getting the chance to play in the Champions League, something he had cited in a local interview earlier last month.
Despite this, Wenger will be determined to ward off any late offers for his talisman with his influence, key to the club’s quest to end their 13-year wait for the Premier League title.
