A lot of the focus on Arsenal has been on the arrival and departure of players but, not a lot has been said about those who were on loan last season.
The Gunners had many players out on loan including Lucas Perez who is going to fight for his place in the squad as per his agency. Speaking to The Laziali, his agency Protio Sport said:
“Lucas, on day 2, begins pre-season with Arsenal. There is interest from some teams, but he is a player of Arsenal and his desire is to succeed there.”
Speaking to Radio Sel a month back the forward’s agent Rodrigo Fernandez Lovelle said that the Gunners have put the player on the market. He said:
“What will happen? Lucas has a two-year contract with Arsenal, for now only this can be answered. The club has never put him on the market, it was the player who decided to move at the end of the last summer market.
“He was sorry to be on the bench, not to be called into the action. First we will know Arsenal’s plans, it is still too early to know what will happen.”
While the 29-year-old forward may not play a very important part, he is certainly a useful member to have on the team. And given the fact that Arsenal will be fighting for four trophies, it is essential that they get all the help they can.
It has to be admitted that this situation can change as the transfer market goes on but at the moment it looks like Lucas will stay at the club.
When the player first joined Arsenal he had a season that was not too bad but not too good as well. There was a feeling that then manager Arsene Wenger did not fully trust him but despite that, he finished with a respectable goals and assists tally given the limited chances he had.
Perhaps under new manager Unai Emery, Lucas will have a bigger role to play and maybe, he will truly flourish then. Fans will be hoping that Lucas will be able to kick on after the hugely impressive season he had with Deportivo La Coruna.
