Now is the time that Arsenal have decided to clear out all the players that they feel do not have a future at the club.
One such player is the Spanish forward Lucas Perez who has been linked with a number of clubs during the transfer window and he seems to have found a destination at last.
According to Evening Standard, West Ham United are interested in getting the player from the Emirates in a deal worth £5m and the forward is expected to complete his move on Tuesday.
“I know that West Ham want him and they have made an offer,” Lucas’s agent Rodrigo Fernandez Lovelle told ESPN FC.
“It is an option. Lucas is happy at Arsenal but he wants to play regularly and West Ham is an option for him.
This seems like a very small fee when compared to the almost £18m that the Gunners paid to bring him to the Emirates.
But with Arsenal having made some substantial investment in the arrival of five players so far, there is a need to sell those that are not needed. Perez is among many who are being linked with a move away and it is understandable that the Spaniard would want to move, given the limited opportunities he has had so far.
Getting rid of the fringe players is a good way of clearing the wage bill and make room for further signings if the club were interested in doing them. The Gunners made it clear that they had a limited budget to begin with so the investment made has to be recovered at least to some level.
Arsenal have been very active so far in the transfer window and it seems that even during the last week of the window, they will be busy making deals.
Earlier during the preseason stage, it seemed that Perez had some sort of a future at the club on the back of an impressive season that he had in Spain while sent out on loan.
It was clear that with the arrival of a new manager, this summer was one that was going to involve a lot of activity in both the arrivals and departures. And it seems that Perez is going to be part of the ones that end up leaving the club as a player who offered a lot in the chances whenever he was called upon.
