Lucas Perez is attracting interest from Lazio according to Arsenal striker’s agent Rodrigo Fernandez.
“Lazio made enquiries regarding the player’s availability last year but a deal could not be agreed’’, the striker’s agent claims as per a report in Daily Star.
The striker was signed by former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger two seasons ago but he was never a regular starter under the French boss.
Though he was impressive in cameo appearances when deployed on the wings, the Spaniard could not hold down a starting spot in the first eleven.
Lucas resisted loan moves from Premier League mid-table teams to join his former club Deportivo La Coruna on a season-long loan where he had a good year. In a recent interview, the player’s agent threw more light on the interest coming from Italy
“Lucas has always liked Rome as a city and Lazio’’
“His has a great friend in Luis Alberto who plays for Lazio but He still has two years left on his Arsenal contract so we need to talk to the club first before making any decisions’’
“Lucas likes the idea of playing for Lazio but it is still too early to consider it’’
With a new manager expected in a matter of weeks if not days, selling off the Spaniard may be a decision taken too early.
While in Spain, Lucas operated as a centre-forward his ability to play in different attacking positions played a huge role in convincing Arsene Wenger to bring him to London.
Though he never won the faith of Wenger in deploying him as the team’s top striker over the likes of Giroud, the new incoming manager may have different ideas which may suit the player.
With the sale of Walcott to Everton and Oxlade Chamberlain to Liverpool, selling him to free up funds for new recruits or keeping him as a squad player for next season are two options the club will be looking at.
