Wales international Aaron Ramsey has revealed that Arsenal are yet to kickstart talks with his representative regarding a new long-term deal.
The 27-year-old is presently contracted to the Gunners until the summer of 2019.
Ramsey has struggled with numerous niggles since his double-leg break against Stoke back in 2010, and he has still remained hugely influential as a box-to-box midfielder, who has managed to score crucial winners in the FA Cup finals in 2014 and 2017.
Most recently, the Welshman put in a strong performance during the double-legged Europa League round of 16 tie versus AC Milan where he contributed a vital goal at San Siro, in addition to his assist for Granit Xhaka’s goal in the second-leg of a 5-1 aggregate triumph.
Arsenal have been in discussions over the futures of several players including Jack Wilshere of late, and when asked on his contract situation, Ramsey appeared to suggest that the hierarchy are more concerned about the former, who is approaching the final months of his deal.
“Nothing to comment on at the moment. I think they’ve been busy to tie up other contracts at the moment,” he told BT Sport.
Ramsey has received mixed reaction from the Gunners’ faithful over the years, but overall his performances have been in a positive note when he manages to maintain his fitness over an extended period of time.
Obviously, committing Wilshere to a new contract is vital with the Englishman just a couple of months away from potentially leaving on a free transfer, but the Gunners should avoid Ramsey entering the final year of his contract as well as it would bring the uncertainty, which brought an unpleasant atmosphere during the current campaign.
Both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez had found themselves with six months left on their respective contracts in January 2018, and though the former committed his future, the latter had to be swapped for Henrikh Mkhitaryan which has turned out to be a great deal for the Gunners.
